Judge refuses to stop refinery expansion
A Hammond federal judge has refused to stop the BP Whiting refinery expansion. The
NRDC presented a lawsuit to attempt to halt any further action. An expansion would be environmentally devastating, but Judge Philip Simon doesn't seem to realize that. Simon called the lawsuit a "collateral attack" on NWI's economy. Yet another case of putting money before the environment.

Vigo County officials eye air pollution control permit fees
I was surprised and impressed to read that Vigo has an Air Pollution Control Department. From the article: The county Board of Commissioners in April staged a public hearing to gain input on a proposed ordinance. Several businesses and the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce opposed the ordinance, which would establish local fees on air pollution sources. Several county residents and a small business advocated support of the ordinance at the hearing.

At a Concerned Citizens of Northwest Indiana information fair, several experts touted the growth of green jobs in NWI, saying they're on par with old fashioned manufacturing jobs.

Will state back Village Earth?
The nonprofit Hoosier Heritage Youth Foundation plans to build a park teaching about natural resources and the value of wildlife conservation. The park would be on reclaimed mining land, about a 272-acre plot. The state could back Village Earth by implementing a localized sales tax.
